Influences of Islam on the Spanish World:
Even though this might seem very broad, I would have to choose weather to talk about architecture and how it was influenced by the Muslims in Spain, or how the spanish language was greatly impacted by the Arabic language during the Muslim rule in Spain that lasted for around 500 years. I'm very interested in these two topics because the way these two cultures mixed had such a huge impact on both of these societies today. It influences their politics, their traditions, their culture, and even the mentality.
Language:
I have done a sufficient amount of research and read a lot of informationa about my topic. I'm going to write and construct my essay having an introduction talking about some history of the Arabic culture in Spain (that in order to show/give the reader the feeling of how important their role in Spain was). Afterwards i'm going to begin with the body paragraph that would explain in detail how the language was mainly influenced by the Arabic culture and language (especially since Spanish was still yet developing and wasn't a strong language with a strong base). Lastly, my conclusion is going to reflect on the infromation given above by both the introduction and the body paragraph.
Major Points:
- Modern Spanish is thus a mixture of Old Castilian and the Mozarabic dialects which it absorbed. - A small number of words have also been borrowed from Moroccan Arabic both due to geographic proximity. - Considering the difference of cultural level between Christians and Muslims during Middle Ages, it is logical to think that the words that expressed certain techniques, objects and situations did not exist between the Christians, were directly assimilated by them, since they could not be translated. - Many words that began with 'al' have an Arabic origin, as well as the suffix í.
